Looking for a job is a full-time job in itself
Scouring the internet, searching for leads, registering on job sites, preparing cover letters and targeted resumes for every job application, tracking those applications and subsequent interviews, networking and making calls, recording details of contacts and filing copies of everything...are just some of the tasks involved in a job search. The process can go on for months and months too. It can be an overwhelming logistical nightmare. Someone who understands exactly what it's like is Jason Alba.
After having a successful career in IT and business strategy, Jason found himself in the job market, which was supposedly a "job seeker's market."
Jason quickly found that a job seeker's market does not mean the job search will be easy or short. Frustrated by the lack of real tools for job seekers, he decided to design a tool that allowed a job seeker to manage and organizet their job search. That tool grew into JibberJobber.
What is JibberJobber?
JibberJobber provides you with an easy way to keep track of all of the information you collect during a job search. You can track where you have sent your resumes, the jobs you apply for, and log the status of each job as you proceed through the hiring process. In addition, you can track your personal networking contacts and keep a log of how they have helped you, as well as connect with them on LinkedIn.
JibberJobber is complementary to online social networks. It's like a completely private version of LinkedIn: You decide who's in your network and how they relate to you and each other. Nobody gets access to your people but you.
What else can it do?
There are separate categories for direct job contacts and recruiters, and the system will do things for you that you're likely to overlook: It will remind you of when you need to follow up with people, for example. There's also a lot of related content on the site, including data from Chimby, a career advice site. And there are online worksheets to help you come up with your own personal 30-second pitch, your answers to hard interview questions, and so on.
The system borrows some CRM (customer relationship management) features. It will show you the map of who's related to whom in your list of contacts, which makes it possible to track referrals so that you can send thank you gift when you finally land your job. It will also map locations of specific jobs.
The site gives users free access to all features for 14 days and limited access thereafter. If you pay for the service (starting at $9.95 per month), you can store more data and do a lot more with it.
