The Implication for Job Seekers
While the trend for online social networking is increasing (up from 11% to 12% and climbing), it's important to note that some things haven't changed. The majority of people (36%) still found their current job through referral or personal contacts. What social media is doing though is helping us to expand and leverage our network of contacts much more effectively, which in turn increases the potential rate of referral.
What this means for job seekers is that they need to develop and implement a job search strategy that integrates social media with proactive traditional job search methods so that they extend their reach and increase their profile. In doing so they improve their chances of being noticed and recommended by the right people at the right time.
