Our Priority Question

What results do you want from your investment in training?

Excellerate's Four Step Approach For Relevant Results Focused Training

Step 1: Understanding the Need

Whether it's a one day skill building workshop or a longer-term development programme, our first step is to develop a sound understanding of your organisation and the specific areas of job performance that need improvement. We consult with you and listen very carefully to understand your business goals, organisational culture, performance needs and priorities. This process may include a number of strategies prior to designing the training intervention. For example:

  • Individual interviews with participants, supervisors, colleagues, and customers
  • Survey instruments and feedback assessments for individuals and teams
  • Site visits and observation of performance on the job

2: Designing in Collaboration

Once we have developed an understanding of the organisation and the specific performance issues, we work with you to formulate the specifications for your training programme linked to specific business goals. We then prepare your training proposal to confirm the performance and learning objectives, the activities that will directly meet the learning needs of the participants, the duration, price, dates and location of your programme.

3: Delivering Targeted Training

Excellerate designs training to enable real and sustainable change in behaviour and performance at individual, team and organisational levels. To achieve this, great care is taken to ensure that training interventions are designed for maximum impact by incorporating a variety of methodologies. This careful and considered approach ensures that your training is targeted, thought provoking, emotionally engaging and behaviourally challenging as well as memorable and fun.

4: Integrating Training with the Larger Learning Process

Effective training is built on the recognition that a training course is part of an overall organisational learning and development process. We work with our clients to determine what can be done before, during, and after training to generate the best results for participants and the organisation.

Prior to their training programme participants are involved in pre-course work to prepare them for learning and to focus their attention on why their course is important. Participants enter a training programme knowing why they are attending and what will be expected of them as a result. On completion of their programme Excellerate also provides services that support the transfer of learning and reinforce the application of skills on the job. For example:

  • Follow-up coaching
  • Short focussed refresher workshops
  • Newsletters
  • Web-based resources

Structuring the training process in this way does not necessarily require a great deal of time or resource, but it can make a world of difference in transferring cassroom based learning to the workplace.

Excellerate's Learning
Philosophy & Methodology

Targeted training that's thought provoking, emotionally engaging, behaviourally challenging, memorable
and fun.

Organisations elicit the best in their people through a sound understanding of the conditions that bring about learning and performance. When the conditions are right, performance and achievement is inevitable. The underlying challenge is to create a learning environment that enables people to overcome their limitations and release their potential. Central to this is the fact that as soon as people leave training force of habit undermines sustained changes in behaviour. Excellerate's Learning Philosophy and Learning Methodology seeks to create the conditions that promote and support sustainable behavioural change.

Strategic and Cultural Alignment
Essential to the success of any training initiative is the programme’s alignment to the organisation’s vision, values, strategic goals and culture. Where these are aligned key messages and practices are reinforced which greatly sustains meaningful change.

Competency Frameworks
Competency frameworks provide a useful way to facilitate learning and focus performance. Where appropriate, Excellerate integrates existing competency frameworks and appraisal processes into our programmes to ensure consistency and stronger strategic alignment.

Psychometrics and Self Assessments
Where appropriate, psychometric self-assessments are integrated into the learning experience to enable an increased insight into the effect learners have on themselves and others. We use both formal and informal psychometric tools with great success.

Experiential Learning
Individuals and groups learn best from experience. Excellerate's approach ensures that training programmes are highly experiential, enabling people to shape their learning for themselves through proven exercises and practice sessions.

Facilitation
Excellerate adopts a facilitative approach which draws out the knowledge and experience of the group so the learning process becomes that much more accessible, relevant and sustainable.

Three Levels of Engagement
Training needs to connect with learners at an intellectual, emotional and behavioural level to enable success. Excellerate's training programmes emphasize all three levels of engagement to promote sustainable learning.

Learner Engagement
Critical to the success of any learning experience is a climate that encourages trust, credibility, open-mindedness, engagement challenge and commitment. Excellerate's training process involves contracting at the start of programme to enable a relevant and high-impact learning experience.

Performance Stretch vs. Comfort Zone
Individuals and groups learn and perform best when they are neither too comfortable (comfort zone) nor when they are too uncomfortable (panic zone). Between these two extremes is the stretch zone where the learning environment takes people out of their comfort zone with an appropriate balance of support and challenge.

Feedback
We all have blind spots that undermine our ability to perform to our potential. High quality, well timed and framed feedback can help us to overcome our blind spots. Excellerate's facilitation and training design creates opportunities for challenging, supportive and appropriate feedback within the learning environment.

Coaching
Coaching is a highly effective form of learning that enables sustained changes in behaviour. Excellerate provides opportunities for pre and post workshop coaching that prepares people for learning, consolidates their learning and enables them to apply that learning once they return to work.

Ownership and Self-Directed Learning
In order to sustain the learning beyond the training environment, each learner needs to take responsibility for their own learning. Excellerate's job is to create an environment which is conducive towards learning and the learners job is to engage with this opportunity.

Learning Partnerships
When we make our learning transparent, we become teachers. Even if we are new to a field and don’t have the confidence of an expert, we can still provide important learning opportunities to others. The use of learning partners creates opportunities for learners to take increased ownership of their own learning and to support and challenge the learning of their fellow participants.

Reflection and Planning
We learn much by way of personal experience when we stand back and take the time to reflect on that experience. Learners requires time to assimilate new information, to reflect on, defend, and share what they have learned if it is to become part of their repetoire. Excellerate's training creates opportunities for learners to reflect and then formulate practical action plans to translate their learning into improved on job performance.

Fun and Good Humour
Learning and teaching are social processes therefore the atmosphere of a learning environment is very important. Humour can reduce stress and anxiety, which in turn makes it easier for learners to experiment, take risks and make mistakes. All critical elements of a successful learning experience.  Excellerate makes a clear distinction between the serious business of achieving outcomes, and the process of getting there fun, enjoyable and memorable.
